EL TETERETE
Rancho El Teterete is located just behind secluded beach and nature reserve XCacel (see the map below) where in season turtles lay their eggs.
MAIN PALAPA
When you rent the main palapa (or: house) with 2 or 3 people only, you will enjoy the Rancho’s privacy at its fullest. Because then, the second (smaller) palapa remains empty.
This means you will have the whole place, including the fire place and pool, for yourselves.
Only exception is when Josephine - the owner of Rancho El Teterete – is in Mexico herself: she will reside in the smaller palapa.
In that case, she will always notify you in advance of her presence in the second palapa, which is out of sight of the main house.
You will only see her when cleaning the pool.
SMALL PALAPA
Renting the main palapa means having the whole place for yourself, including the fire place and pool! When you prefer to enjoy the rancho with more than two or three people, the second palapa is for rent as well.
The second palapa is a bit smaller, and is basicly equipped. Located behind the pool, it has a queen size bed with mosquito net, its own kitchen with cold water and basic utensils, bathroom and hot water shower. The kitchen in the main palapa is equipped for both you and your friends who stay there, so enough plates, pots and pans to prepare a diner together in the main kitchen with a view.
You also share the pool and the fire place with your friends or family who are renting the main house. This is the reason why the second palapa can only be rented in combination with the main palapa and for the same period of time!
Your privacy is important!
GETTING AROUND
There’s lots to see and do in the area around Chemuyil.
Rancho El Teterete is located just behind secluded beach and nature reserve XCacel (see the map below) where in season turtles lay their eggs. The entrance to the beach is almost opposite the exit of the dirt road (past Chan Chemuyil), with only the 307 in between. You can enjoy Mexico’s flora and fauna, historic sites, and cenotes for diving, snorkeling and swimming all in the vicinity. Behind the entrance of Rancho El Teterete is a road that leads to a big cenote.
Tulum is a 10 minutes drive south, with all necessary facilities, such as ATM’s, car rentals, lots of restaurants, an Italian bakery and travel agents to book excursions such as cave or cavern diving and jungle tours. My neighbor Martin knows various dive instructors who can take you cenote diving.
When arriving into Tulum, just turn right [direction Coba] for great sightseeing, Mayan ruins, and more.
Driving north from Chemuyil, you pass Akumal, where swimming with turtles is daily practice. Further north – about a 25 minutes drive – is Playa del Carmen. Quite opposite from the tranquility of Chemuyil or easygoingness of Tulum, Playa del Carmen is lively and touristic. Chemuyil itself has a few restaurants and shops for your daily groceries. An ATM (no banking facilities) is located in Pool supermarket.
GETTING THERE
BY CAR:
Flying into Cancun, it is easiest to rent a car so you can get around as well. When driving out of the airport, follow directions to Playa del Carmen and Tulum, interstate 307.
Exit the interstate at Chemuyil (just after exits Bahia Principe and Akumal), and follow the road until the football field. Then continue on the dirt road and turn right at the t-crossing. After cenote XuNaan Ha (on your left side), keep driving for 800 meters and turn right on my property when you spot the pink name plate. The rancho has lot number 27 – number 25 is indicated by my neighbor, so just turn right the next big entrance. Depending on traffic, it takes on average 1.5 hour from Cancun.
BY CAB:
When you do not to rent a car, Josephine can arrange a cab driver from Chemuyil to pick you up from the airport – or grab one yourself. The costs are approximately 75 US $.
BY PUBLIC TRANSPORTATON:
Public transportation is good in the Riviera Maya area. Just take a bus to Playa del Carmen and take the ‘colectivo’ from Playa del Carmen to Chemuyil (direction Tulum). The colectivo, which is a small bus that stops almost anywhere along the route, drives into Chemuyil. Get off at the small bus stop in Chemuyil and call Josephine, so she can pick you up in town.
